Winning Charity – September 3, 2026

Greetings Ladies,

Thank you so much to our members who were able to attend last night’s meeting. We shared some laughs, some stories and had some great conversations. We had lots of fun.

Many thanks to Pamela Shelton who gave us an update on where our donations from our last meeting were used. And congratulationsto Emily Feiguth for nominating Farmworker’s Hub. This is our winning charity this month.

Here is a little information about the organization.

Since 2021, the Farmworker Hub Niagara-on-the-Lake has provided a free thrift shop and welcoming space for migrant farmworkers working throughout the Virgil, Niagara-on-the-Lake, St. David’s and Queenston area.

Completely volunteer-run, the Hub meets practical needs for workers who are far from home and working hard in our agricultural community. We provide work boots, clothing, hygiene supplies, bike lights and other safety equipment, as well as support and community connections for workers who are sick, injured or facing difficult circumstances.

This year alone, the Hub has provided more than 1,400 pairs of work boots to farmworkers. We also provide welcome-back hygiene kits with essentials such as shampoo, soap, toothpaste and deodorant, particularly important for workers who may wait up to two weeks for their first pay cheque.

But the Hub is about more than meeting basic needs. It is a place where workers can find support, connect with others and feel welcome in the community. We host social gatherings and activities, and provide practical and emotional support when workers find themselves facing illness, injury, isolation or loss while far from home.

The Hub has always made do with donated and repurposed fixtures and the generosity of our community. After five years of serving farmworkers, some of that infrastructure is showing its age and is no longer adequate for the volume of donations and supplies we handle.

This is where the support of 100+ Women Who Care Niagara will make a lasting difference.

Funding will help us invest in the infrastructure of the free thrift shop, including sturdier metal shelving, baker racks, industrial shelving for backstock, and improved storage and organization. These may not be glamorous purchases, but they are important investments in the safety, functionality and dignity.

A well-organized shop makes it easier for workers to find what they need. Sturdier shelving allows us to safely store and display more of the clothing, household items and supplies that are donated. And improvements to the space will serve farmworkers not just this season, but for years to come.

We are incredibly grateful to the volunteers, donors and community members who have helped the Farmworker Hub continue this work since 2021. Your support helps us strengthen the foundation underneath the work we do every day.
